These sweet little Christmas Tree Cupcakes are so festive looking and have a healthy surprise lurking under that rich green frosting!

They will be the hit of your Christmas dessert table, for sure! December 15 is one of this month’s food holidays known as National Cup Cake Day. Let’s put it to good use!

For an even better chocolate experience, serve them with a glass of chocolate milk, or some hot chocolate!

The holidays are a time when sweet treats abound and the calories in most of them are high.  What a refreshing change to add something a bit more healthy in the middle of a fun and whimsical Christmas dessert.

It’s time to make these Christmas tree cupcakes

This post contains affiliate links for your baking experience. To make these Christmas tree cupcakes you will need the following supplies:

  • 1 Chocolate cupcake mix and fixings to make them.
  • Vanilla frosting – you can purchase it or make your own.
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Grass decorating tip
  • Icing bag
  • Whole strawberries
  • Sixlets Candies
  • Yellow candy stars

Supplies to decorate the Christmas tree cupcakes

To make these Christmas tree cupcakes, start by baking some plain chocolate cupcakes and allow them to cool.  

While the cupcakes are cooking you can make and color your frosting mix with the green gel food coloring.Color the frosting with green gel food coloring

Once the cupcakes, have fully cooled, cut the bottom of your strawberries so that they are flat.  Slice the top of your cupcake to give you a flat base for the berry to stand on, too. Cut the strawberry bottoms and cupcake tops

Place the grass icing tip in an icing bag and add your green frosting mixture.

Pipe the outside of the berries, pulling the tips out slightly so that they have some dropped ends. Continue icing until the strawberry is covered and it looks like a Christmas tree.

Christmas Tree Cupcakes

These sweet little Christmas Tree Cupcakes are so festive looking and have a healthy surprise lurking under that rich green frosting! They will be the hit of your Christmas dessert table, for sure!

  1. Make your cupcakes according to the package directions and allow to cool.
  2. Cut the bottom of your strawberries so that they are flat.
  3. Slice the top of your cupcake for a flat base too.
  4. Add some green food coloring to your frosting to get the desired color.
  5. Put a small layer of the frosting on the top of the cupcake and place your strawberry there so that the pointed part is at the top.
  6. Fill an icing bag with green food coloring and a grass shaped icing tip. Secure it with a coupler.
  7. Pipe tree branch tips with the green icing over your strawberries, slightly pulling out the tips so that it has some dropped ends.
  8. Continue icing until the strawberry is covered and it looks like a Christmas tree.
  9. Add the Sixlet candies and place a yellow candy star on the top.
