June is the sixth month of the year in our calendar and gets us close to the half way mark.  In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the beginning of summer with the longest day of sunshine in the year, but in the Southern hemisphere it is associated with winter and the fewest daylight hours. The calendar of national days of June is focused on the great outdoors. From the taking selfies in the sun to sipping martinis in sunglasses, life is good!

The name of the month comes from the Latin word Junius.  One thought about the origin of the month is that it is associated with Juno the goddess of marriage and the wife of Jupiter, the goddess of spring and growth. There are several other theories about the name of the month as well.

June is National aquarium month, which is apt, since many people visit them during summer holidays. It is also National Fruit and Vegetables Month, National Camping Month and National Great Outdoors Month, among others. But don’t stop with just these activities, with all the upcoming fun and offbeat holidays, there is more than just outdoor eating and living to celebrate this month.
