Calling all Jurassic Park lovers, and Land Before Time fans. It’s Dinosaur Day, which is cause for celebration!
Grab your rock hammer, soft bristled brush and field journal to get ready to observe the day. Or, if you’ve left your paleontology tools at home, keep reading this post for ways to celebrate this May national day as a dinosaur enthusiast.
Dinosaur Day falls on the third Tuesday in May. It is one of several national days dedicated to these magnificent creatures.
The other dinosaur related days of the year are International Dinosaur Day on June 1 and National Fossil Day on the Wednesday of the second full week in October.

How to celebrate Dinosaur Day
Get ready to celebrate the Mesozoic Era and all of the cool dinosaurs it held. The list below includes movies you can watch, dino-themed museums and state parks to visit, and more!

- If you have kids, show them The Good Dinosaur. This funny and heartwarming Disney/Pixar movie depicts an alternate reality where dinosaurs and humans live together.

- Get a dinosaur sweatshirt, embroidered with dinosaurs to keep warm in style!
- Visit Dinosaur State Park in Connecticut. When it was being built, they discovered 2000 dino tracks and enclosed 500 of them in an exhibit for visitors to see.
- Get your kids a dinosaur-themed puzzle that can be customized to include their names.
- Go to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, which is the only active Ice Age excavation site in an urban environment in the world. Don’t forget to check out the Dinosaur Hall at the nearby Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
- Purchase a piece of dino decor, like these stained glass dinosaurs.
- Watch the Night at the Museum movies. Ben Stiller stars in this movie franchise where he learns as a museum night watchman, that the exhibits (including a playful T-Rex named Rexy) come to life at night!
- If you’re a T-Rex fan, make sure to visit The Field Museum in Chicago. It has the largest and most complete T-Rex named SUE, on display.
- Get temporary dino tattoos so you can show everyone your love for these prehistoric creatures.
