Wine Cork Pumpkin – DIY Pumpkin Made from Wine Corks

Fall is such a fun time of the year for making fun Halloween recipes and DIY projects. This easy to make wine cork pumpkin comes together in a few hours and looks great in any fall vignette.

Don’t like the mess of a carved pumpkin? This Thanksgiving pumpkin project is a lot neater and puts to use wine corks that might otherwise have ended up in the trash.

This easy decor project is perfect for not only fall, but Thanksgiving and Halloween too!

We drink a lot of wine at our house, and I hate to just throw the corks away. Turning them into fun DIY wine cork projects is a fun way to spend the afternoon, while adding some decor at the same time.

Note: Hot glue guns, and heated glue can burn. Please use extreme caution when using a hot glue gun. Learn to use your tool properly before you start any project.

Making a wine cork pumpkin

All you need to make this project are the following supplies:

• Wine corks
• Orange craft paint
• A few pieces of heavy scrapbook paper
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks

I also used a piece of wire rope and some raffia to finish off the top.

My husband loves a particular wine that we buy at Trader Joe’s and I was lucky to have enough of the same sized cork to make the project.

If you don’t you may need to trim your corks so that they are all the same length.

Put some orange paint on a paper plate and dip the corks into the paint. Allow them to try.

When the corks are dry, use a glue gun to glue 6 of the corks together to make the first row. Then hot glue the others so that they form a pattern something like this ending with a row of 4 on the top:

The leaves are cut from heavy card stock paper using the pattern below. I used a green dotted and green plaid paper.

I also used another cork with leaves on it, as well as wire ribbon wound around a pencil to make it form a curly cue shape.

You can download this pumpkin leaf pattern here. I cut mine about 2 inches in size.

Just hot glue the two leaves on the top row of the pumpkin. Glue the cork on top and position the wire rope around it.

Tack it in place the hot glue and tie a couple of pieces of raffia around the cork, too.

Tada! That’s all there is to it! The finished wine cork pumpkin is done and is cute as can be. I ended up using 34 wine corks for this pumpkin.

I LOVE that I had a cork with leaves on the top. It makes the perfect stem! And since I had some corks left over, I made a baby pumpkin too!

I just trimmed down the stem cork a bit and made two tear shapes for leaves in Thanksgiving themed scrapbook paper. So cute! This one only took 10 corks.

Displaying the wine cork pumpkins

Just add some fall ribbon and silk autumn leaves and you have an easy to make fall vignette using your two pumpkins.

I love that this project is so quick to make. I had it all done in about two hours, including the drying time for the paint.
