How to make this DIY mummy door decoration

What could be Halloween like than greeting guests with a decorated front door or inside door made up to look like a mummy? Let’s get started!

You will be covering an entire door for this Halloween project. The mummy door decoration project is fairly easy to do but takes a bit of time to finish.

The longest part of the project are the criss cross mummy wrap sections, but I’ll show you a few tips to make this easier.

Cover the door in black poster board

I started by covering my whole door with the black poster board. Be sure to save one strip of it for the eyes.

When I began the project I used tape, but found as I was working that Blu Tack is more effective. It holds the weight of the poster board up better and will be secure if you plan to leave it up for quite some time.

Making the mummy eyes

Put a smaller, lunch sized plate on the yellow poster board. Trace around it with a pencil to make the shape of the eyes, and cut them out.

Then put a drinking glass on the extra scrap of black poster board and trace it to make the pupils of the mummy’s eye. Cut them out.

Arranging the mummy door design

Place the yellow eyeballs about a third of the way down from the top of the door and attach them with Blu Tack. Place the black poster board pupils on the eyes and attach with Blu Tack.

Putting streamers on the door

Start to criss cross the white steamers around the eyes and attach them with Scotch tape. Arrange the white streamers so that the eyes show fairly well in the mummy design.

Continue covering the door with the streamers. I found this worked best to work with the door open.

This allows you to wrap the streamers around the inside and outside of the door with ease. If you do it with the door closed, the inside door jamb gets in the way.

You can pre-cut the streamers to streamline the process of making this mummy project.

How adorable is this door covering? It will delight your trick or treat visitors. You can do it on both inside or outside doors and the kids will love to help you put it together.
