Halloween Party Idea – Pumpkin Drink Holder

Time for a fun Halloween party project. Don’t stick the party drinks in a plain ice bucket. Instead use a pumpkin to make this unique pumpkin drink holder that will delight your adult Halloween party guests.

I like having cocktails at Halloween parties, like this ghostbuster cocktail or this vampire cocktail.

However, it’s always a good idea to have few beers, some wine, and a few nonalcoholic beverages on hand for people who don’t like cocktails.

This cute pumpkin drink holder is perfect for keeping those drinks cool! Plus all of your party guests will love how it looks!

October 31 is not just Halloween, but also Carve a Pumpkin Day. When you pick out your pumpkin to carve, be sure to select another for this drink holder project.

Once you have your pumpkin in hand, grab a few tools, and within minutes, you can create this fun drink holder that will add a decorative touch to your party table at the same time as being functional.

DIY Halloween decorations are so much fun to make and use. They get you in a festive mood and give your home a spooky look when done.

This fun drink holder would be a great idea to have for serving drinks for a Halloween Cookie Swap. See my tips for hosting this type of party here.

Make a Halloween pumpkin ice bucket

It’s happy hour –  Time to invite some friends over for some cocktail recipes, or a fresh bottle of beer – Halloween style! Today, we’ll be turning an ordinary pumpkin into a tool for serving and keeping your drinks cold.

To make this project, you need a few things:

  • A large pumpkin
  • A sharp knife to cut the top
  • An ice cream scoop to dig out the pulp
  • A pliable plastic bowl that will fit into the opening of the pumpkin
  • Ice and drinks

To make this neat holder, just cut the top third off a very large pumpkin and then scoop out the flesh and seeds. Save these for recipes, like these toasted pumpkins seeds from The Gardening Cook.Scooping out a pumpkin

Clean the inside of the pumpkin well and add a bowl the same size as the inside of your pumpkin. A Dollar store bowl will work well.

They are very pliable and can be formed to fit into the opening more easily than a stiff bowl will.

Then get creative. You can paint a design on the pumpkin if you like, or use Halloween decals to stick to the pumpkin.

If you choose to use a decal, try using one that contains one of the symbols of Halloween, like the bat pictured below. You could also try using a witch, black cat, ghost or spider decal too!

Don’t get too crafty and carve the pumpkin too much. This will weaken the container. Painting or stenciling is also less messy. This Halloween pumpkin makes a super drink holder for your holiday party.

The sky is the limit on the decor ideas. This one features a bat and the words Halloween Happy Hour, but a pumpkin face, or a witch or even the word “cheers” would look great too.

Fill up the bowl on the inside of the pumpkin with ice and then add your wine and beer bottles.

The bowl will keep the water off the table when it melts and the cold will help the pumpkin to keep its shape, as well.

Some other ideas for pumpkin drink holders

  • Use a keg tapping kit to add a spout to the outside of your pumpkin.  Clean it and add an alcohol or mocktail drink for guests to serve.
  • Clean out the inside of the pumpkin and add a bowl to the inside. Fill it with spiced mulled wine for guests to enjoy.
  • Scoop out the center of the pumpkin and fill with ice.  Then cut holes the size of beer bottles into the sides of the pumpkin and place the bottles in the holes.

Bottoms up!
