“Philosophy is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat. Metaphysics is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn’t there. Theology is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn’t there, and shouting “I found it!” Science is like being in a dark room looking for a black cat while using a flashlight.” – Black Cat Analogy
While people have attributed the Black Cat Analogy’s‘ origin to various philosophers and great thinkers, the origin of this famous analogy is unknown.
“Whenever the cat of the house is black, the lasses of lovers will have no lack.” – English Proverb
This proverb refers to the superstition of Ship’s Cats. It was believed throughout history that cats were good luck on ships, so many fisherman wanted to have cats aboard their boats to boost their luck.
“A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere.” – Groucho Marx

“Black cat or white cat: If it can catch mice, it’s a good cat.” – Deng Xiaoping

“Black cats were created to give everyone the opportunity to be owned by a mini-panther.” – Unknown

This quote from financial advisor Steve Davidson means that trying to predict the future (in his case when it pertains to economics and finance) is impossible.
The first part of the phrase “searching for a black cat in an unlit room” is an event that might be a challenging. However he follows it up with an impossibility “[looking for a cat] that may not even be there”.
“When the tea is brought at five o’clock, and all the neat curtains are drawn with care, the little black cat with bright green eyes is suddenly purring there.” – Harold Monro
This is actually an excerpt from the poem Milk for the Cat by Harold Monro. The poem is about a black cat that is ready for it’s nightly bowl of milk. You can read the full poem here.
“Animals like crows and black cats are not ominous at all; it is the men’s superstitious mind which is the inauspicious one.” – Mehmet Murat Ildan
This quote by Mehmet Murat Ildan suggests that bad luck isn’t something brought by others, it’s a force that lies inside yourself. If you believe bad luck will come to you, it will.

How To Celebrate Black Cats
Black cats are sweet animals deserving of all the love in the world. While every day is a good day to honor black cats, there are two special days in the year dedicated to them.
Both of the days occur in the fall. August 17 is Black Cat Appreciation Day, and October 27 is National Black Cat Day. Halloween is also a great time to celebrate black cats.
While those days are great days to salute black cats and share these black cat quotes, every day is a good day to appreciate these beautiful creatures.
